When James approached Farmer Constructions about a substantial renovation to his beachfront home at Peregian Beach, we were blown away by the potential of the property, not to mention the ocean views.
The 20-year-old home had good bones but the original block render was in poor shape and the curved walls looked dated. Everything needed a facelift and freshen up.
The brief was a full exterior refurbishment to bring a more contemporary aesthetic to the home. Creating a practical and private outdoor courtyard area that suited James and his family’s lifestyle was also a key component of the makeover.
A builder you can trust
We worked closely with James on design and construction, sharing ideas and suggestions to deliver the best possible result. James said that he developed a rapport with Dani right from the start.
“With builders, one of the things that stands out for me is having someone you can really trust because a lot of the time you let people into your home while you’re not there. With Dani, he did establish trust really early, and it was great to be able to just leave him a key,” James said.
Creating a natural look with concrete, stone and timber
The original block walls were demolished and replaced with new block rendered walls offering clean, straight lines.
A modern Colorbond roof was installed to replace the old garage roof. Large format concrete tiles in a light grey were used around the garage door, offering a gentle contrast to the white walls. Deckwood batons were installed for privacy and shading on the second storey which soften the overall look, and complement the timber entry gate and front door.
A natural stone feature wall achieved with stone tiles makes an impression at the entry, creating a continuous surface between the lower level and upper storey.
The render, concrete tile and timber theme is carried through to the courtyard which flanks the entry area. Custom timber seating designed and built by Dani and the team feature built-in gardens for a natural look. Concrete look grey tiles were chosen as a practical, hardwearing, safe and attractive option for the floor.
Timber screening to the side and overhead offer shading and privacy to this functional outdoor area. Clear Laserlite sheeting above the screening allows light to enter while also providing protection from the elements.
A contemporary and comfortable sanctuary
James said his vision for the renovation was all about the look.
“Being a house that was 20 years old, it was really important that we had modern features put in and now we’ve got a combination of stone, of timbers, of natural products which I think really has brought the house to life,” said James.
Dani said the exterior renovation made the property stand out, especially among the original Queenslanders and older weatherboard homes in the street.
“This renovation has completely transformed the property into a modern masterpiece that really makes an impression. The various elements all work together to create a contemporary look and comfortable sanctuary for James and his family, while also adding value to their investment,” Dani said.
James and his family were so thrilled with the outcome of this project that they have asked Farmer Constructions to work on their next big project – the interior renovation.
“We’re really happy with the outcome and would definitely recommend Dani to anyone,” James said.
