Mooloolah Valley Queenslander renovation

When Matt and Halley contacted Farmer Constructions about refreshing their Mooloolah Valley home, the prospect of undertaking a major renovation seemed overwhelming.

The 30-year-old home, nestled amongst stunning Sunshine Coast bushland, is an original Queenslander with good bones. However, it needed some attention, and the couple were keen to restore it to its former glory with a slightly contemporary take on the original design.

They also wanted to build a self-contained area downstairs that could be used by family members or rented out. In short, there was a lot to do.

“I just had an endless list of maintenance things that needed to be done on the house. I just needed someone to come in and basically give us a fresh start and get the place looking like we were proud of it again,” said Matt.

Farmer Constructions proprietor Dani Farmer worked from supplied drawings, organised an estimate and engaged a certifier for preliminary building approvals. Dani then reviewed the pricing and scope with Matt and Halley to answer any questions, ask questions and discuss alternative ideas to then revise the estimate where necessary to ensure the customers’ requirements were met.

“From the moment we met him, we knew we could say what we felt and we knew he would listen. He was just really easy to talk to and bounce ideas off,” said Halley.

Easy-going, professional team

The four-month project required an entire team of trades and specialists, including carpenters, plumbers, tilers, cabinet makers, painters, electricians and septic installers. As the project manager Dani coordinated all the works, eliminating the need for Matt and Halley to get quotes and communicate with multiple trades.

“When you’ve got people coming to your house every day for many months, you want to know you can get along with them and you want to know that they’re easy-going. Working with Farmer Constructions was just really easy”, said Halley.

The new self-contained granny flat on the lower floor includes two bedrooms, a rumpus room, bathroom and kitchen.

The existing deck upstairs required work, so the team replaced all the boards and installed plantation shutters to allow the breeze to cool the verandah while also offering protection from the elements.

A striking new staircase completes the transformation and the attention to detail is evident in every step and rail.

The best possible result

“When we first looked at it, we saw a good house on stumps that definitely needed some attention,” said Dani. “The result looks absolutely fantastic and will have added immense value to the home.”

Matt and Halley are thrilled with the result: “Not just Dani but his three main chippies are three of the nicest blokes you’ll meet. Always really just keen to help.”

“Dani was always keen to please and nothing was too much of an issue. We feel like we’ve ended up with the best possible product at the end of the day. I’d definitely recommend Farmer Constructions,” said Matt.
